The Future of Philadelphia Relies on this Room.

In 1776, The Founding Fathers gathered to declare Independence from Great Britain in pursuit of a democratic government where all men were created equal and free to explore life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness.

Today in Philadelphia, many of us sit in rooms in declaration of...what? What is it our jobs - our roles that are created by the people, for the people - truly empower us to do on behalf of this awesome city in which we live?

Well, I’ll tell you. In the case of HR Leaders, you are responsible for the economic growth of our region. And so far, you’ve done a pretty damn good job.

Philadelphia has enjoyed the fastest growing rate of Millennials amongst big cities across the country. This means that our HR community is getting really good at attracting - and keeping – talent.

This matters because in order to get businesses to move to the region, like Amazon (OK, maybe not Amazon), we need to show that we have a dynamic talent pool to offer. If we can do both, grow our talent pool and attract business, then we can grow our cities economy...which will enable the pot holes to be addressed.

We’ll explore this further in the lightning talk, along with a deeper look at the Philadelphia talent pool and the risks within, as well as how to use Philadelphia in your sales and marketing pitch in all things talent.

In the meantime, feel free to change your title to “CHRO, Economic Development Strategist, Greater Philadelphia”.
